Muriel, I'm not sure why your cake didn't rise. We tried it here in the Eggland's Best kitchen a few times and it came out fine each time, sometimes even rising slightly over the top of the mug. It may have a pudding texture in the middle (depending on what size mug you use) but the outside should definitely be like cake. If you try it again, please let us know how it comes out. If you add other ingredients and it comes out better, let us know that too.

I just tried the recipie and my cake didn't have much taste at all. The texture was really spongy, all the chocolate chips were at the bottom. I really didn't like the blandness or the texture enough to even give it another shot. I must say that it did look good and even slid right out of the mug onto a plate but my spoon would bounce off of it. After about 5 minutes, you could have thrown it at the wall and knocked a hole in it.

Thanks for this recipe! Tastiest and easiest mug cake I have tried!! So easy to put together at the last minute for a quick dessert while dinner is cooking. I add espresso powder to boost the chocolate flavor. I found sprinkling a bit of flour with the chips before adding to the mixture keeps them from sinking to the bottom of the cake. Mine doesn't always come out the same. Sometimes it is a bit gooey , but like pudding cake then.Removing it from the mug so it doesn't steam helps also. Heath Bits added are also good along with some nuts!! Great with ice cream or whipped topping or even hot fudge! Just right for two.

I made this as above with these substitutions: butter instead of vegetable oil, Splenda Blend instead of sugar, and (accidentally!) strawberry extract instead of vanilla. The result was a dark, moist, super-rich, almost pudding-like cake. It didn't rise very much, but - with a little peanut butter on top - I loved it! It was irresistibly dark and fudgy. It was bittersweet, the butter made it sooo riiich, and the strawberry was a happy accident. Next time I plan to use more sugar, a little baking soda, butterscotch chips, and some frosting on top. I'll let you know how it comes out! A great dark chocolate fix!
