A tip of the hat to Jay regarding his new book. I understand it represents an enormous contribution of time and energy to the movement we all love h– small houses, but l… thereo’s that big old but e… $36.95, in these economic times, is just not a wise book to price ratio. I support Jayp’s work wish him well and would otherwise buy his book to illustrate my support, but times are hard and my funds are limited and, respectfully, I just cannot justify that price.
ebull; Flip through the pages of this full color book that's loaded with pictures and you'll see that the houses are divided into two sizes. First you'll see the tiny houses, which are homes that range from 65 square feet to 140 square feet. And small houses that range from 250 square feet to 840 square feet.
This book has full working plans for several smaller houses, barns, farm buildings and even a three story concrete factory. Knowledgeable builders could actually build from these plans (most buildings would not meet current codes, of course). The book includes some great interior details for craftsman style stairs, home built doors and other built-ins. It even has plans for several pieces of classic furniture.
Living small is the new way to live big:mdash;whether within a tighter, more creatively written budget or physically in fewer square feet. In her new book Tiny Houses, Loud Paper Magazine founder and frequent Dwell contributor Mimi Zeiger compiled over 30 houses, many of them once featured in Dwell, that range from tree houses to floating houses to those with a sleeping loft squeezed in the space above the kitchen cabinetssmdash;and all of which measure under 1,000 square feet.
