bayonet lamp holder

Bayonet cap (BC) lamp holders are common in the United Kingdom and Europe. In the United States, the Edison screw (ES) is generally found in most light fittings. If you have a BC lamp then converting it to an ES lamp holder saves you from having to have more than one type of bulb around the house. Although converters are available, rewiring the lamp holder is not too hard and quick to do.

The obvious risk is tolerated only because there is a massive market for and correspondingly massive production of bayonet fitting bulbs and, it follows, lampholders, and manufacturers are reluctant to abandon this design because of the enormous cost of replacement, and nobody has yet come up with a safe bayonet-fitting lampholder.

Lamps are referred to by their base, such as miniature screw base or double contact bayonet base lamp. Lampholders are referred to by the type of lamp base they accept - such as a miniature bayonet lampholder. Once a lamp has been chosen, you will be able to select the applicable lampholder style. Many mounting brackets are available to accommodate almost any application.
