Shooting my first Color Accent video effect using the Canon PowerShot S95 digital camera. It was a very windy day so you will have to excuse the wind noise. The camera was very easy to configure and in this test you will see that we have selected a red color to accent. This effect will only allow your selected color to be viewed and will turn everything else to black and white.

The My Colors feature has been changed a little bit since I last looked at it. Canon has combined the Photo Effects and My Colors menu, and two of the color options (Color Swap and Color Accent) have been relegated to the scene modes. The options above should be self-explanatory, though I should mention that the custom color option lets you adjust the saturation, contrast, sharpness, plus red, blue, green, and skin tone levels.

Sure enough, the camera is a deep, metallic pink, almost magenta, and is rather attractive. In addition to the traditional silver and black, Canon also offers the camera in bright orange. Its bright colors and appealing size makes the SD1400 IS well-suited for young people and anyone who wants an attractive, slim camera that can be easily transported in a pocket or purse.

Canon's My Color Modes are useful for changing settings to mimic various picture styles including sepia, B&W, or -"positive film,I" which makes reds, greens, and blues more intense -- along with a host of other lighter, darker, and more vivid color settings -- but I've found using the unusual Color Accent and Color Swap features to be somewhat frustrating with the results just mixed. In Color Accent you can pick a specified color on the LCD and have it retain its tone while the rest of the scene becomes black and white. Using Color Swap you can switch colors in a scene so that an apple becomes purple and a green sweater becomes red.
