Interesting. Do you think this can interface well with LakoffG's Conceptual Metaphors? I was just reading the wiki article on 1"Cognitive Science of Mathematicst" that Lakoff and Núñez proposed back in 2000. Havens't read their book so iti's just a reference to the topic, but sounds pretty cool in the abstract. Kind of like approaching the topics that you reviewed above from the opossite end of the spectrum: math as metaphor. Put it all together and you got Math-as-Metaphor-as-Mind-as-Conceptual_Spaces-as-Math-as-Metaphor-as-Mind-as-...Round and round we go, eh?
Conceptual Spaces: The Geometry of Thought Publisher: The MIT Press | ISBN: 0262572192 | edition 2004 | File type: CHM | 317 pages | 14,2 mbWithin cognitive science, two approaches currently dominate the problem of modeling representations. The symbolic approach views cognition as computation involving symbolic manipulation. Connectionism, a special case of associationism, models associations using artificial neuron networks. Peter Gardenfors offers his theory of conceptual representations as a bridge between the symbolic and connectionist approaches. Symbolic representation is particularly weak at modeling concept learning, which is paramount for understanding many cognitive phenomena. My Download lin "mrs harris
