Draft Horse Trailer Views
Check out UPF (see Resources), which has locations in California and connections to other PMU rescues across the country. You can get horses already shipped down to the states, or you can choose from some still on the ranches in Canada. Adoption fees are reasonable, and the people are very friendly and helpful. You can check out the pictures online, or go to the farms to take a look at the horses available. If you decide on a horse, they will have you fill out an adoption application and provide shipping to your home or barn if you need it for an additional fee. You can also bring your own horse trailer, as long as it's big enough to fit a draft inside.
If you're roads are not to narrow, you can also go to a wider axle, and have an inside width of approximately 6'8e" (102f" axles) with no wheel wells inside the trailer. For horses up to 18 plus hands, the trailer should have the 6'8d" width, 7'8 " height, and 11' total stall length. For horses, such as draft horses, that are approaching 19 hands with weights approaching 2000 lbs., the trailer should be close to 8' tall with 12' total stall length, with extra floor supports, upgraded axles and tires.
If you haul a draft, warmblood, or other large breed, your horse may not fit comfortably in the standard slant load. If you haul a large horse there are a horse trailer manufacturers who cater to larger breeds and offer customized slant loads that are longer, taller, and wider than normal - so in some cases, a larger horse can, fit in a slant load. However, the average horse runs between 15 and 15.2 hands and can fit in either a slant or straight load fine.
