In 1996, Woodstock was selected for preservation in the United States National Film Registry by the Library of Congress as being culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant . An expanded edition of Woodstock, the movie, released on June 9, 2009 in Blu-Ray and DVD formats, features additional performances not before seen in the film, and also includes lengthened versions of existing performances featuring Creedence Clearwater Revival and others.
On June 9, 2009 a remastered 40th Anniversary edition was released on both Blu-Ray and DVD. The 40th Anniversary edition is available as both a two-disc Special Edition and a three-disc Ultimate Collector’s Edition . The film was newly remastered and provided a new 5.1 audio mix. Two extra hours of rare performance footage, features 18 new performances as never before seen from 13 groups, including Joan Baez, Country Joe McDonald, Santana, The Who, Jefferson Airplane, Canned Heat, Joe Cocker and five (Paul Butterfield, Creedence Clearwater Revival, The Grateful Dead, Johnny Winter and Mountain) who played at Woodstock but never appeared in any film version.
In 2005 the Experience Hendrix L.L.C. (a company who now manages and distributes further Jimi Hendrix releases) released the 2 DVD Deluxe Edition which finally contains almost all songs performed at Woodstock - this time even in the correct running order. However, Master Mind and Gypsy Woman , both sung by Larry Lee, are missing. It also contains the documentary The Road To Woodstock which features interviews by Jimi Hendrix' band members. The second disc (entitled A Second Look) offers a different perspective for the viewer. The then 22 year old student Albert Goodman shot the film on his black/white camera from a different angle and managed to capture even material that the film crew missed. Additionally disc 2 contains a press conference with Jimi Hendrix held on September 3rd 1969, band members Billy Cox and Larry Lee remember their friendship with Jimi Hendrix and Eddie Kramer's insight as a sound engineer on how the Woodstock festival was recorded.
anybody who is a fanwell its a good dvd, its packed full of a number of great artists, the sound is great, the camera work puts you up close and personal with each band as they perform. many in between interviews with artists, fans, and whatever else is going on around Woodstock 99. If your into the old Woodstock and don't like any new colors, well this may not be for you. but if your just a plain out music and concert lover that listens to whatever pleases you, than this DVD is a nice treat and will be watched more than once i assure you.Submitted by duuuuuumb (ile des chenes MB CAN)Was This Review Helpful?
