Enter Event's new Studio Precision monitor series ($1,499/pair), featuring a completely new cabinet, transducer and amplification system design. The series comprises both active and passive models: the ASP8 and PSP8 8-inch two-way and the ASP6 and PSP6 6.5-inch two-way, respectively. For this field test, we ran a pair of ASP8 monitors through their paces.
Both the ASP8 and the ASP6 pack a whopping 280 watts of power per speaker: That's 200 watts to the low-frequency driver and 80 watts for the high-frequency driver. The ASP8 and ASP6 both use 2.6kHz, fourth-order asymmetrical crossovers. (Passive models use a 2.5kHz second-order crossover.) Best of all, there are several controls on the rear panel that allow you to tailor the monitor's output to match your listening environment. HF and LF Trim knobs provide f±3 dB of control. However, these controls were not detented. (Event says these, like the Input Sensitivity controls, are deliberately not indented so the user can make fine adjustments.) A High-Pass 80Hz Roll-off control, calibrated to the industry-standard Dolby spec, is available via a push-button, the perfect complement to a system with subs and/or bass management systems.
Anyway, after listening to all of those speakers, the Event SP8s were my favorites out of ALL of those speakers listed. They are smooth, defined, have full, tight, punchy bass that's not boomy, are a pleasure to listen to... I could go on and on. The were by far my favorites for the day, and I would highly recommend them. Now, if only I had the money to buy them... Posted by Anonymous Musician on May 30, 2005
The Event SP8p’s have ended that problem for me. Once I set them up and tuned them to my room, the music that I mix comes out full and powerful without much remixing. I love the smooth overall response. They are active monitors that are bi-amped with what seems to me to be the perfect crossover point. The woofer has an 8n″ diameter, which is perfect for a medium sized room. I think the adjustment capability for the amount of low frequencies being projected into the room is one of the big pluses for these monitors. And believe me, they have power to spare.
