Nearly 90 percent of all tournament and novice archers use a mechanical release aid. A mechanical release aid can be a string or a metal loop. What determines the use of metal or string mechanical release aid is noise and accuracy. Personal preference is the determining factor of whether you choose string or metal. The metal bow string loop is heavier and affixes to the bowstring with metal clamps. No matter which you prefer a mechanical release aid certainly can't hurt when you realize that fractions of an inch measure success or failure.

Many archers use a mechanical bowstring release, rather than finger tabs or a glove to draw a bowstring. Ergonomically shaped to fit the hand, the release contains a small latch actuated by a trigger on the handle. While the latch can attach directly to a bowstring, some archers choose to connect a special metal bowstring loop, sometimes called a D-loop, to the bowstring to use with the release. The nock end of the arrow fits into the flat portion of the loop, while the latch on the release attaches to the curved part of the loop.
