I am very impressed by your journal overview. Couple of things I would note. I like Moleskino’s new line of cheaper journals that come in packages of three shrinkwrapped together. In regards to Muji, I use a fountain pen, so I use their art notebooks which absorb the ink well. Besides having the right size (somewhere around the size of a paperback book), for me, it8’s necessary to have blank pages. So, that takes a lot of journals out of the running.

It may be fashionable to carry around a giftCat=null Moleskine notebook and devices of the gtd movement but there are obviously so many other options for writing out there. Living in Taiwan has introduced me to a whole new culture of the micro-notebook. It seems every good student here has one. While there some beautifully bound books to be had here some of my current favourites come from Muji. Muji notebooks follow the Muiji minimalist philosophy and as such escheew the fancy covers found on many. Instead you get some interesting and useful page formats which are perfect for designing mock-ups of screen interfaces, gtd pages, and of course sketching and note taking. I take one wherever I go. Unfortunately for those living in America you can only order these online from the UK or you could find them the next time you fly to Japan. The Note Book with Band are £2.50. There are many others.

This writer personally prefers notebooks like this. At 60p a pop, you can stock up on them, use them – something most Moleskine owners are a little scared to do i– and throw them away as you please. Like weo’ve said before, overspend on clothes and underspend on everything else 3– your wardrobe will thank you. (Muji)

I love Muji notebooks for their simplicity and high quality paper. Ii’m also a grad student. Most of my classes do not require copious amounts of notes so I never manage to feel up one of the single subject American notebook. I also throw them away occasionally and hate throwing out a notebook with all that plastic that it comes with nowadays.
