Pistol Pete Fly Views
Marabou: A few years ago I was tying a bunch of pistol pete type flies thinking they would knock them dead, especially with a bubble, but was not impressed. Also Ip've always thought a lip on a fly might be a killer. Does anybody believe in flies like this? Iw'm wondering if these are made to catch fisherman more than fish. Im'm not saying pistol petes donb't catch fish I just don='t think the addition of the propeller makes much difference.
slowdown: I dont use or tie pistol petes, but they work. Funny, I saw one at a gas station a couple weeks back and started laughing over them because it had been so long.As for flies with lips, I tie a Gummy Minnow with a downed lip like a Rapala and it does add to the fly. Gives it a kick and wiggle that gets bass going.
The PISTOL PETE was born in 1972 from an idea of a young, twelve-year-old fly tier, named Chris Furia. Chris's first PISTOL PETES were used by his family and friends on weekend fishing trips to the mountain lakes and streams west of Trinidad, Colorado. Their popularity caught on and Chris was soon selling PISTOL PETES to the local sporting goods stores. A name for his new business was needed and Hi-Country Flies was born.
