Lightweight, portable demolition hammer drills overcome the limitations of a jackhammer. Like the jackhammer, a demolition hammer drill repeatedly pounds tough surfaces with a chisel-like tip. However, the demolition hammer drill is lightweight making it easier to use on walls and ceilings. But the demolition hammer drill does more than demolition. It not only reciprocates its bit like a hammer, but also rotates the bit in a drilling motion. Using the tool's controls, you can set the demolition hammer drill to pound, rotate or hammer and drill at the same time.

Loosen the demolition hammer drill's bit chuck with a chuck key. Insert the shank of a masonry drill bit into the open chuck. Use the chuck key to tighten the chuck and secure the drill bit into the drill. Locate the hammer/drill setting button on the side or rear of the tool. The setting control might be a button or switch.
